Ever since the dawn of time, humans have had the urge to explore the world in the name of trade, conquest or exploration. But regardless of the reason, it all started with a seed of curiosity – the desire to find out what lies beyond the borders of the known. Famous explorers such as Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Robert Falcon Scott, Ahmad Ibn Fadlan, and Isabelle Eberhardt all kept journals of their own to document their travels. Today, these journals have provided invaluable insights into different worlds in different times. Furthermore, humans always had the desire to express themselves and document their thoughts, feelings and experiences. From ancient rock engravings by hunter-gatherers depicting animals they have seen, ritual practices they observe or hunting scenes they have experienced, to the intricate drawings and hieroglyphs on the walls of the Giza pyramids, depicting practically every aspect of life in Ancient Egypt, humans, in a sense, journaled what they deemed to be important enough to immortalize in writing or drawing. The Long Weekend Travel Journal draws inspiration from two of these most ancient human activities that have been embedded in our consciousness for thousands of years. There is a traveler in all of us, and even if it may not seem so, there is also a “journaler” in all of us.
